The Storyline: The Solstice Kings

Cover Art

Miles Thorsen’s adopted family is… unusual. But that’s not why he fled after graduating from college. Now, after ten years of restless wandering, he returns home for the winter holiday celebration. The solstice is a time of change, and perhaps it’s time for Miles to face who he is, who he loves… and who he’ll become.

This is a short read but tells a big story. In an effort to not give too much away in writing my post about it, here is a visual with some hints from the book. Really…Go Read It!!

My Recommendation

What I Liked…

This is my first Kim Fielding book. Let me say wow, how have I not found her before! It was a fast-paced novella captured me in the first couple of pages but kept the myserty going through until the very end.

Solstice Kings is a paranormal romance that I did not even realize was paranormal until a chapter or two into it. Even then, it was just subtle hints of it. I enjoyed the storyline as well as the descriptions of the settings. For a short story, the author really developed the main characters to the point that you were rooting for them despite the challenges between them.

A Forewarning…

The story does lead on to a Happily Ever After ending, so don’t worry about that. If I had to pick one item that I would change…it would be longer! I really did not want the story to end and wanted to know more about the castle, the woods, and the other things living in the forest that was mentioned.

The Bottomline…

I know, I know this is a shorter review. SORRY! I am trying real hard not to give too much away! It is a great read and a total recommend!!

PLEASE KIM: Can you write a prequel and/or sequel….or even better, make this a start to a whole series! I would LOVE to read more!

About the Author: Kim Fielding

Kim Fielding is the bestselling, award-winning author of over 60 novels and novellas. Like Kim herself, her work is eclectic, spanning genres such as contemporary, fantasy, paranormal, horror, and historical. Her stories are set in alternate worlds, in 15th century Bosnia, in modern-day Oregon. Her heroes are hipster architect werewolves, housekeepers, maimed giants, and conflicted graduate students. They’re usually flawed, they often encounter terrible obstacles, but they always find love.
Having migrated back and forth across the western two-thirds of the United States, Kim calls California home. She lives there with her family, her cat, and her day job as a university professor, but escapes as often as possible via car, train, plane, or boat. This may explain why her characters often seem to be in transit as well. She dreams of traveling and writing full-time.
