The Storyline: Run Free, an alternate universe MMM romance by Colette Davison
Jax is an omega, Hugo is human, and their love is forbidden. They’ve spent the last seven years on the streets, relying on no one but each other.
When they collide with Dominic, they realize something has always been missing. Jax is keen to get to know the alpha, but Hugo resists the mate-call, worrying that, as a human, there will be no room for him.
The only way they can be free to love each other is to escape the UK, but will Dominic leave his life behind to find home with two younger men?
Run Free is an alternate universe MMM shifter novel, with fated mates, mpreg, an age-gap relationship, and a happy ending.

What I Liked
This book takes place in an alternate universe or an alternate reality. The prologue gave a good historical explanation of how sifters came about and why they were being “regulated”. This is one of those details that added to this story. Aside from that, it had a real-life feel to it despite being a paranormal novel. It deals with homelessness, being unaccepted for being different, and government restricted emigration. Don’t worry, you will be hooked within the first few pages!
All the characters were easily relatable. Hugo, the human, was my favorite character. I think it was because, I could see a little of myself in him. Always looking out for Jax and even when Dominic comes along, trys to remain strong for him as well. DESPITE HIS APPREHENSION.
I am trying to avoid too many spoilers…however, I will say the sexual component ranked up there! What would you expect with a trouple. I am not sure where the author learned some of her gay scenes from, but she did hit them out of the park.
What I did not Care for
This is just me… I heard the word “slick” a few too many times in some of the scenes (physical, arousal, and during the “clean up”). I totally get that this is a part of the omega universe. This is just a personal taste thing for me. Overall, that did not take away from the story for me 🙂
This was my first Colette Davison gay romance book, it will not be my last! This was a well-done novel and hit on a number of real-life issues we are facing today.
I know this was a stand-alone novel, but admittedly, I am hoping it becomes a series.
About the Author of Run Free: Colette Davison
Colette’s personal love story began at university, where she met her future husband. An evening of flirting, in the shadow of Lancaster castle, eventually led to a fairytale wedding. She’s enjoying her own ‘happy ever after’ in the north of England with her husband, two beautiful children, and her writing.

“Coffee” Talk with Colette Davison
As many of you know, I have a bit of a coffee addiction. This has developed into a little bit of a sub-theme to my site (BookGemz). I say it is being a father of three wonderful kiddos, BUT, it is more likely because I can never seem to set my book down to go to sleep once I am engrossed into it.
However, I have a small tradition of reaching out to the authors to connect on their favorite caffeinated beverages and other little tidbits. Colette was gracious in responding to my inquiry!!
As I noted in her biography above, Collete is English, so it was not unexpected that she would not be a coffee drinker. BUT, she also does not drink tea! “I know, I’m English and I don’t drink tea,” she tells me. Her beverage of choice…HOT CHOCOLATE. “When I go to a coffee shop, I’ll either get a hot chocolate (with cream, of course!) or a chocolate frappe.”
While I also inquired about her favorite coffee house and splurge drink….she regretted to inform me that her favorite drink was at Cafe Nero, BUT they discontinued it. “Caffe Nero used to do the most amazing Coconut & Chocolate Frappe, so I used to go there a lot to write, but sadly they stopped selling them.”
Apparently, Colette wrote Run Free during the COVID lockdown, so she had to rely on the home supplies of hot chocolate and Cadbury’s Whole Nut chocolates.
