The Storyline: Origin

Cover Art

Cameron wants to make it clear that he did not go into the festival to find a dragon mate.

Germany is supposed to be an escape. With a new mechanical engineering degree, a new job looming, and a whole life planned out that isn’t his, Germany seems like the best place to find himself.

So, how does he end up discovering his lost magic heritage, running from bad guys with a secret agenda, and being adopted by the not-so-extinct Fire Dragon clan?

Cameron blames tall, dark, and sexy Alric, King of the Fire Dragons. His fated mate. Because of course he is, and mates are meant to take the blame, right?

It may take a hot second, but as Cameron learns more about the scarred Alric and the life he’s landed in, Cameron realizes that perhaps this is where he’s meant to be, magic and mates and kidnapping and all.

Turns out coming to Germany wasn’t an escape but his awakening.

My Recommendation

What I Liked…

This was my first book read or reviewed by either of the authors. With that, Origin deleivered! It was a fast paced book that caught my attention within the first chapter and kept me engaged through the the last chapter (and beyond).

This book did a great job of world-building. Provided the history that led to the place they are in today, a place where dragons are living in secret, thought to be extinct. Searching for mages that are needed for their survival. The authors did well to feed the reader this via small tidbits through-out the story, not just in a big information dump.

Oh, the cast of characters! I truly mean both cast and characters. The novel truly follows Cameron and Alric through their meeting and budding romance. Additionally, they introduce a number of ancillary characters with a variety of personalities, that clearly will become important to the series as a whole, not just this novel.

There is adventure! Yes, this book has it all. The villains in this novel are an unknown force. There is stalking, kidnappings, rescue attempts…oh so much more. Sorry, I am trying to avoid spoilers….but gosh, there is lots going on, it is difficult.

The romance….yes there are some hot scenes in the book. I liked personally how the relationship development was a bit chaotic to start, throw in a denial phase, some drama, a should I or shouldn’t I undertone… I kind of felt for them during the roller coaster.

It is a happily ever after ending, with some clear threads (and characters) left open for future novels in the series.

The Bottomline…

Origin is on my recommend list. It is a great story, great world-building, relatable cast of characters, and of course: DRAGONS.

Soooo…I am not going to lie, the minute I finished this book, despite it was 2 am in the morning, I started the next book, Breathe, immediately (and pounded through a couple of chapters before exhaustion hit). This HAS become my newest favorite paranormal romance series!!

“Coffee” Talk with AJ Sherwood

As many of you know, I have a bit of a coffee addiction.   This has developed into a little bit of a sub-theme to my site (BookGemz).  I say it is being a father of three wonderful kiddos, BUT, it is more likely because I can never seem to set my book down to go to sleep once I am engrossed into it.

However, I have a small tradition of reaching out to the authors to connect on their favorite caffeinated beverages and other little tidbits.   I reached out to AJ first…

AJ: I’m one of those strange people that doesn’t do regular caffeine. I don’t like coffee or tea, so I don’t drink anything of that sort. When I do need a shot of brain power, I take Ginko. Great stuff, gets my brain working in twenty minutes or less.
