The Storyline Basis of the Anthology

Cover Art

When the kids are away, the monsters will play.

School’s out for summer, and these dads are ready to ship their kids off to camp. Not just because their kids are monsters—whose aren’t?—but because they’re ready for some alone time to let their hair down and their fangs out. You see, not only are the kids monsters—their dads are too.

Even the most dangerous of creatures has a soft spot. These bad, dangerous dads love their kids to death, but they need romance.

Every year, for a few short weeks, these hot men with a little extra in their blood get to be who they truly are. And this year, life has a surprise for them. Whether they be mage, shifter, vampire, or changeling, these heartbreakingly handsome dads might be looking to tear up the town… but they’ll end up falling in love. All it takes is the right man to bring them to their knees.

Guest Post

First of all, thank you so much for having me! I’m thrilled to be here with the blog tour for Bad, Dad, and Dangerous. I had so much fun on this anthology with my co-authors, who already all friends of mine, and I hope you enjoy reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

In ‘It’s All in the Name’ (below) I wanted to give you a glimpse at the world behind the story in Elf Shot, one of the stories in the book. Including a bit of information about Bell’s boss and mentor, Felix Maguire. Who is a lot of fun to write too!

It’s All in the Name — Part One

People would believe anything if they wanted it to be true badly enough. Of course elves lied, but the faerie knight whose promises left his lips like bells totally meant every word. The brown eyed girl who still smelled of salt and shipwrecks as she nursed her babies had absolutely given up on getting her skin back. And when the sun came up there’d absolutely still be gold in their pockets, not handfuls of wet leaves.

And parties were meant to be fun.

Lies, but ask anyone and they’d swear they were true.

The movers and shakers in Washington DC rubbed shoulders with papal ambassadors and Jesuits in the sleek dark wood and stone enclave of Charlie Palmer Steak. Atmospheric music tinkled discreetly in the background, pointedly atonal, and oysters glistened wetly on beds of mounded, splintered ice.

Felix took a drink of expensive wine and wished for rotgut whiskey. It would get him to where he needed to be faster than the notes of blackcurrant and oak. Sometimes you didn’t need to enjoy the ride.

He knew why he was here. Special Supervisory Agent Felix Maguire, the bloody-handed Iron Door poster boy. A Templar Knight in all but politically disputed title and ordination he’d have punched the pope to avoid. All he had to do was look dangerous, be affable, and remind the people who made money decisions just how thin iron could be hammered.

Just because he understood it didn’t mean he wanted to do it.

“…the masses obviously need intercessionary measures,” Judge Elliot Claudy said as she sucked an oyster from its shell with candy pink lips. “But for those of us trained to interact with the fey professionally, it’s ridiculous that we would require the same oversight. Don’t you agree, Agent Maguire?”

She looked at him expectantly, the knife barely hidden in her eyes. If he agreed with her, he’d undercut three years of Supreme Court arguments by his superiors. Disagree and he looked paranoid. How could he trust Claudy to negotiate a trade deal with the Knockers, but not to make conversation with them?

“I do,” Maguire said. He let Claudy’s smile take root on her face. “You need more oversight.”

Everyone gathered around him laughed nervously. Assistant Director Jubal’s chuckle was forced grimly between clenched teeth. He glared at Felix from behind tortoiseshell framed glasses as if he could telepathically say ‘shut up’ if he just tried hard enough.

“That makes no sense,” Tony or Terry, a Republican staffer protested. “Why bother training them if you don’t think you can trust them?”

Felix smiled over his wine. It was stronger than he thought, maybe the label was for something more than bragging rights.

“More exposure to the fey means more risk of being compromised,” he pointed out in a rough voice. “And I don’t trust anyone.”

The taste of burned, screaming roses still clung in his throat, sticky and caustic. Grenville, the botanist he’d left sobbing in the back of a black Mariah like his heart had been trampled into the mud, had been trained thoroughly before his research trip to the other world. Every check and measure had been in place, the importance of them had been thoroughly impressed on him. Yet the little, intent man had still smuggled seeds home to plant in his greenhouse.“I like the singing,” he’d begged as they tore up the roses. “They won’t hurt anyone. They promised!”

Storyline of Elf Shot by TA Moore

All Conri wanted was to drop his kid off at Changeling camp, find the nearest halfway nice hotel, and enjoy a week of uncomplicated debauchery. It should be simple. It doesn’t work out that way.

When a local girl disappears, the neighborhood quickly lays blame at the well-guarded gates of the camp. With his son incriminated, a mystery to solve, and a malevolent pocket of the Otherworld to navigate, Conri will need all the help he can get—even if it does come from a distractingly pretty, tightly wound Iron Door agent who doesn’t trust Conri to be on the right side.

About the Authors

BRU BAKER

Bru Baker writes sophisticated gay romantic fiction with strong characters, real-world problems, and plenty of humor.

Bru spent fifteen years writing for newspapers before making the jump to fiction. Whether it’s creating her own characters or getting caught up in someone else’s, there’s no denying that Bru is happiest when she’s engrossed in a story. She and her husband have two children, which means a lot of her books get written from the sidelines of various sports practices.

JENN MOFFATT

Jenn Moffatt is a proud nerd. Raised on Star Trek, Dark Shadows, The Wild Wild West, and James Bond, she learned not to be afraid of things that go bump in the night and to have hope for the future of humanity. She grew up wanting to be a member of the Addams Family or part of the crew of the USS Enterprise—and she still does.

She’s been soaked to the skin for Chinese New Year and walked in the fog in Frisco. Went to high school in Sin City, and no, she didn’t live in a casino. Lived on the slope of an active volcano, and used to snorkel between classes in college on the Big Island. Now she lives in San Diego where she gets to see the ocean and wildflowers in the desert on the same day.

Jenn was born disabled, which gives her a deep understanding of what it’s like to be different, but she’s never let it hold her back. It just means she gets pretty good parking.

TA Moore studied History, Irish mythology, English at University, mostly because she has always loved a good story. She has worked as a journalist, a finance manager, and in the arts sectors before she finally gave in to a lifelong desire to write.

She shares the house with Harley, an insane grey tuxedo as well as a ginger cairn terrorist named Gus. Rhys is also enslaved to the upkeep a 1979 Pontiac Firebird and enjoys murdering make-believe people.
